New Cork hospital plans yet to reach design stage

Plans for a new elective hospital in Cork are not yet at a detailed design stage despite looming winter pressures on existing hospitals, the Oireachtas Health Committee heard. 

In December, the Government confirmed the new hospital will be built in Glanmire. Fine Gael TD Colm Burke raised the issue during a hearing with Department of Health secretary general Robert Watt and HSE chief executive officer Bernard Gloster, adding that the Cork hospitals are under serious pressure.
