Cannabis with a street value of €47,000 and cocaine worth over €3,000 were seized during the search of a house at Knocknaheeny in Cork last February, it was alleged on Thursday when a young man appeared in Cork District Court.

Detective Garda Michael Abernethy charged Dominick McCarthy of 20 Kilmore Heights, Knocknaheeny, Cork, with a number of charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The 20-year-old is charged with having cannabis and possessing this drug for the purpose of sale or supply to others at his home on February 18. He is also charged with possession of cocaine and having this drug for selling or supplying.

He is also charged with money-laundering at the same date and place where it is alleged that he possessed €4,930 being the proceeds of crime.

Judge David Waters asked about the alleged value of the seized drugs. Sgt David Fleming said it was alleged that the cannabis was worth €47,000 and the cocaine had a street value of just over €3,000.

On hearing that, Judge Waters said it was a matter that would not ultimately be dealt with Cork District Court.

Sergeant Fleming asked if the case could be adjourned until January 14, 2027, to allow time for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions. The length of the adjournment was required for forensic analysis of the items seized last February.

Judge Waters said that even if DPP directions were not available on the adjourned date it should be brought to the attention of the court if the results of the forensic analysis were known. The judge said he could decide on jurisdiction for the case once he had confirmation of the results of forensic analysis.
