Gardaí recover more than 70 stolen phones and laptops in Dublin city centre search

The devices were recovered during a planned search following an investigation that began when gardaí traced a stolen phone

Gardaí have recovered more than 70 stolen devices after searching a business premises in Dublin city centre.

The Store Street Community Engagement garda team, supported by members of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB), recovered “a substantial number” of stolen electronic devices following a targeted operation in the Dublin 1 area.

The investigation commenced in July this year when Store Street gardaí traced a stolen mobile phone to a premises in Dublin city centre.

Further inquiries were carried out in collaboration with the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB).

Last Thursday, investigating gardaí conducted a planned search of a business premises in Dublin 1, resulting in the recovery of 36 laptops and 40 mobile phones.

Devices undergoing examination

All recovered devices are now undergoing technical examination with the aim of returning them to their rightful owners, a garda spokesperson said.

No arrests have been made at this stage and investigations remain ongoing.

Gardaí advised the public that if their phone is stolen, they should immediately contact their service provider to block their SIM and 15-digit IMEI number and report the theft to their local Garda station, providing details of the phone to assist with its potential recovery.
