Man charged with dangerous driving over Skerries incident

A man has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving in connection with an incident in north Dublin over the weekend.

Four people, including three teenagers, were injured in an incident in Harbour Road, Skerries, on Saturday night.

Gardaí said they had responded to a public order incident at approximately 9.45pm after “a large number of youths gathered and an altercation broke out”.

A spokesperson said: “During the course of the incident, a car drove at a number of people.” Gardaí said three teenagers – two female and one male – were taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment with “non-life-threatening injuries”.

A fourth male was later reported to have been injured.

On Monday morning, 29-year-old Sean McGlone, of Beechwood Drive, Drogheda, appeared before Balbriggan District Court in connection with the incident.

Garda Ultan McElroy of Balbriggan Garda Station told the court Mr McGlone had been arrested on suspicion of endangerment on Sunday.

He was later charged with dangerous driving.

Garda McElroy said the accused made no reply to the charge under caution.

Gardaí had no objection to the granting of bail but asked for a number of restrictions to be imposed.

In consultation with Mr McGlone’s legal representation, barrister Pearse Collins, Ms Justice Stephanie Coggins said he was to sign on three times a week at Drogheda Garda Station, stay out of Balbriggan and Skerries, avoid any contact with potential witnesses and avoid alcohol.

Mr Collins said Mr McGlone was employed in Duleek and travelled nationwide as a van driver for work, where he earned approximately €700 per week, and the M1 road was excluded from the bail conditions.

A bail bond of €5,000 was set with a cash lodgement of €1,000 to be made.
