A lapdancing club was the scene for a burglary but the intruder was so intoxicated during the crime he had no memory of committing it.
Now at Cork District Court, Judge John King said he would impose a four-month suspended sentence on 30-year-old Curtis Keniry whose address was given as St. Patrick’s Church, Lower Glanmire Road, Cork. This man was identified on CCTV as the person who carried out the burglary.
Sergeant Aisling Murphy said at Cork District Court that the incident occurred at Secrets lapdancing club on Leitrim Street, Cork, on December 4, 2025.
Sgt Murphy said a manager at the premises flagged down passing gardaí to report a bag belonging to one of the cleaners had been stolen.
The judge was told that there were bank cards, loyalty cards and membership cards in the wallet that was taken, as well as just over €100 in cash, at around 6pm on the day. Sgt Murphy said that all of the cards were recovered and returned to the owner.
Frank Buttimer, solicitor, said the defendant pleaded guilty to the offence. The solicitor said that unusually, the defendant woke up hours later with property from the club and planned to return to the premises to return the items he had stolen. But otherwise he had no memory of the offence.
Mr Buttimer said detection of the offence was relatively straightforward as the accused was easily identified on CCTV.
The solicitor said the young man had several years of homelessness and addiction difficulties but was doing well in prison in terms of getting clean of addiction.
He is serving a sentence since last month of three months for an unrelated matter. Judge King said the new four-month sentence would be suspended from the date of his release from the three-month term.
