A 41-year-old woman who was arrested for being so intoxicated that she was a danger could not account for how she had six sets of stolen earrings in her possession at the time.
Judge Catherine Ryan, at Cork District Court, imposed a one-month suspended sentence on Jennifer Rodgers of Cork Simon Community.
Sergeant John Dineen said that at around 5pm on Monday, January 26, Ms Rodgers was arrested at the bus station and charged with being intoxicated to such an extent that she was a source of danger to herself or others.
During a routine search at the Bridewell Garda Station six pairs of earrings stolen from Lovisa shop on St Patrick’s Street were found in her possession.
Solicitor Eddie Burke said: “She has no recollection of how she came to have any of these earrings. Unfortunately, she has a well-documented addiction to alcohol, with a background mental health issue.
“She had been clear for a number of months after Coolmine and there was a trigger and she fell off the wagon. She is due to get accommodation in the next few weeks.”
Judge Ryan referred to numerous previous convictions and said the offences appeared to be a pattern. However, in all the circumstances, she said she would impose a sentence of one month, suspended.
