Dublin gardaí seize scooters and bikes in drug dealing crackdown

Gardaí have seized almost 30 electric scooters and assorted motorbikes as part of an operation targeting street drug dealing in Dublin’s north inner city.

The haul is the result of an ongoing investigation by a crime unit attached to the Dublin North Central Division.

In a statement, Garda Headquarters said the search was carried out in over 20 locations on Tuesday morning.

“Gardaí from the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) North Central Functional Areas conducted a search operation this morning, Tuesday, January 27, at a number of locations,” it said.

“As part of ongoing investigations targeting on-street drug dealing in Dublin's North Inner City, 21 locations were searched and gardaí seized a number of vehicles suspected of being used to facilitate on-street drug dealing, specifically e-scooters, e-bikes and scrambler motor bikes.” 

The statement said that alongside efforts to disrupt and dismantle drug distribution networks, the operation was aimed at “combating drug-related intimidation and further organised crime activity” associated with these networks.

Details of the seizure include:

  • Electric Scooters: 18 
  • Motorbikes: 1 
  • Mini scramblers: 5 
  • Motorised bicycles: 5 
  • Various controlled drugs — approximately €55,000 worth (subject to analysis) 
  • Cash : €10,740 

It said one person was arrested on foot of an outstanding bench warrant. 

The statement said Garda investigations were ongoing.
