A 45-year-old man accused of having over €70,000 worth of drugs stashed in a commercial storage unit at Monahan Road, Cork, in 2024 confessed to the crime on Wednesday.

Andrzej Jasiniecki, who resides at an apartment at Hewitt Hall, Blackpool, Cork, signed a plea of guilty to five counts under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Detective Garda Robert Kennedy brought the fifth charge against the accused on Wednesday, and it was the most serious of the counts.

It stated that on July 31, 2024, at a unit of Boxed Storage, Monaghan Road, he had in his possession cannabis and amphetamine for the purpose of sale or supply, with the drugs having a market value in excess of €13,000.

The significance of that valuation is that it can carry a 10-year sentence unless there are exceptional circumstances.

The actual valuation of the drugs was €60,000 for the cannabis and €13,000 for the amphetamine.

Solicitor Joseph Cuddigan represented the accused.

On the application of Sergeant John Dineen, Judge John King sent the case forward from Cork District Court for sentencing at the sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court commencing on February 9.
