Man allegedly 'caught red-handed' with 31kg of cannabis at airport carousel, court told
Gardaí objected to bail, and Garda Kevin Molloy said it will be alleged that a passenger from an inbound Boston flight, Mr Grehan, was detected by customs officers to have two 20kg suitcases at Shannon Airport last Wednesday containing 31kg of cannabis with an estimated street value of €620,000.
A court has been told it will be alleged a former sales associate with high-end retail brands in Dublin "was caught red-handed" with two suitcases containing €620,000 worth of cannabis by the carousel at Shannon airport last week.
Sean Grehan, aged 28, of Stradbrook Park, Blackrock, Dublin appeared in Ennis District Court after being charged with two alleged drugs offences arising from the airport seizure last Wednesday.
At the conclusion of a contested bail hearing, Judge Alec Gabbett remanded Mr Grehan in custody with consent to bail on the condition he provide a €20,000 cash surety.
Counsel for Mr Grehan, Sorcha Dianamh Ní Néill Fulham, told Judge Gabbett that her client “doesn’t have cash at present”.

Garda Molloy said it will be alleged that Mr Grehan was due to pass the two suitcases to another person after getting through customs at Shannon Airport.
Garda Molloy said gardaí were objecting to bail based on the seriousness of the charge and the strength of evidence against Mr Grehan.
Garda Molloy said that Mr Grehan, by his own admission, has incurred a significant drugs debt due to his addiction to cocaine, “and admitted that he has taken a serious amount of cocaine over the last number of years”.
Judge Gabbett said that it will be alleged that Mr Grehan “was caught red-handed at the carousel at Shannon Airport with two suitcases full of drugs”.
In response, Ms Ní Néill Fulham said that this would be a matter for evidence. She said that her client is a father of two, and has worked as a sales associate for a number of high-end retail brands in Dublin.
Mr Grehan is charged that, on November 12 at the airport, he had cannabis for the purpose of sale or supply contrary to Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Judge Gabbett remanded Mr Grehan in custody with consent to bail.
