Armed gardaí rushed to the scene of an alleged attack in Cork City centre on Monday, after which two men were brought to hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Witnesses say a fight broke out between two men near a bakery and cafe on Patrick’s Street at noon.
A businessman who asked not to be named said he heard an argument had broken out between the two men and at some point a knife was produced. He said a man was stabbed and that his attacker then ran back into the bakery.
Another person who was nearby when the incident happened said: “Gardai were arriving from all over the place, including one vehicle with armed gardaí."
“About four or five of them ran into the cafe and up through the building. They left a short while later, but they didn’t have anybody with them.”
Another witness who asked not to be named said: “The stabbed man was covered all over in blood. I saw the ambulance crew rush over to him and carry him off.
“I just stumbled across it by chance. It’s not the sort of thing you expect to see in the heart of Cork City,” the witness said.
The pavement at the front of the bakery was cordoned off, with gardaí keeping onlookers back.

A number of chairs were scattered at the front of the bakery, and there was a small pool of blood to one side of it on the pavement.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of an alleged incident of assault that occurred at an apartment on St Patrick’s Street in Cork city this afternoon October 8, 2025 at approximately 12pm.
“A male was conveyed to Cork University Hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. A second male was conveyed to Cork University Hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries after attending Bridewell Garda Station following the incident.”
Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses to the incident to contact them at Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021 4522000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
“Investigations are ongoing,” they added
