Cork District Court heard the men carried out a burglary at Washington St, Cork.

Two men drove to an apartment at Washington St in Cork at 5.30am and carried out a burglary where the resident was assaulted and had property including a 40-inch TV stolen, it was claimed in court.

These allegations were made today at Cork District Court where Garda Patrick Houlihan and Detective Garda Myles Moran objected to bail being granted to the two accused, Timmy Saubolle, aged 31, of Lagan Grove, Mayfield, Cork, and Michael Ryan, aged 43, of 94 Curraheen Drive, Bishopstown, Cork, They were charged that on the September 26 they carried out a burglary at Washington St, Cork.

The alleged circumstances was that they arrived in the area at around 5.30am in an Opel Astra.

It was alleged by gardaí that the injured party was subjected to an assault in his apartment and that the two defendants took a number of items including a 40-inch TV, a PlayStation 4, a mobile phone and €150 in cash.

It was further alleged that they were seen on high-quality CCTV loading the stolen items into the Astra.

In a second charge against both defendants, it is alleged that they carried out a theft at Spar, St Patrick’s St, Cork, on the same date. Gardai spoke with staff who stated two men and a woman entered the store, selected groceries to the value of €16 and left without paying.

Judge Mary Dorgan refused the application for bail made by Timmy Saubolle through barrister Paula McCarthy and remanded him in custody until October 9 when he is to appear by video link from prison at Cork District Court.

Michael Ryan was granted bail, in his application through Aoife Buttimer solicitor on his own bond of €1,000 with no lodgement, on condition that he resides at 94 Curraheen Drive, Bishopstown, Cork, does not bring any drugs or related paraphernalia to the house, is contactable at all times by gardaí, signs on three times at a week at Togher garda station, and has no contact with the injured party or co-accused and to keep a nightly curfew between 11pm and 7am.

Judge Dorgan adjourned his case until October 22, on the application of Sergeant John Kelleher to allow time for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
