Two men are due in court on Thursday in connection with the seizure of €1.2m worth of cocaine in Dublin.

As part of ongoing investigations under Operation Tara, a garda initiative targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) West, gardaí attached to the Finglas Drugs Unit conducted a number of searches under warrant. 

Additional support was provided by members of the Dublin Crime Response, officers from the DMR West Division and the Regional Armed Support Unit.

At a residence in Dublin 11, gardaí seized approximately 12kg of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €840,000. A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and detained at a Garda station in the DMR West under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

At another residence in Dublin 15, gardaí seized a further 5.5kg of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €375,000. A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and also detained at a Garda station in the DMR West under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

Both men have since been charged and are due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court at 10.30am on Thursday.

The drugs seized will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

A garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing.
