Gardaí appeal for witnesses after woman seriously injured in Athlone assault

A woman in her 30s suffered serious injuries in an Athlone assault, as gardaí appeal for witnesses and information

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a woman in her 30s was seriously injured in an assault in Connaught Gardens, Athlone, Co. Westmeath, on Friday morning.

The woman was taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore for treatment.

A man in his 60s was arrested at the scene and questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in Westmeath.

He has since been released without charge.

Anyone who was in the Connaught Gardens area on Friday between 10.45am and 11.30am should contact gardaí.
