Cork gardaí object to bail for man accused of stealing goods worth €1,000 from service station

Cork gardaí object to bail for man accused of stealing goods worth €1,000 from service station

The man was remanded in custody with consent to this bail until September 18 at Cork District Court.

Gardaí objected to bail being granted to a man who allegedly climbed into a closed service station through a toilet window and stole €1,000 worth of goods before leaving in the same manner.

Detective Garda Pat Connery outlined these allegations in the case against Kevin Coade, aged 47, of Reendowney Place, Ballyphehane, Cork.

Eddie Burke solicitor said Kevin Coade presented himself voluntarily to gardaí.

Mr Burke suggested it was a suitable case for bail.

Det Garda Connery objected to bail saying: “It is alleged that on September 3, at 9.30pm, he entered Westlink service station via a toilet window when the shop was closed and that he stole €1,000 worth of foodstuff and left through the same window.

“On August 23, it is alleged that in a shoplifting incident at Frazer’s, Mahon Point, he stole five t-shirts.”

There were garda concerns that he would commit further offences if granted bail.

Judge Mary Dorgan remanded him in custody with consent to bail on conditions including his own bond of €1,000 with €150 cash to be lodged, and an independent surety of €1,500 of which €1,000 was to be lodged. He was also required to stay away from Pouladuff Rd and from Mahon Point.

He was remanded in custody with consent to this bail until September 18 at Cork District Court.
