Man pleaded guilty to two thefts

The man pleaded guilty to two thefts, one incident of being drunk and a danger and another count of failing to show up in court.

A man struck twice at the same off-licence — stealing a €30 box of cider cans on each occasion — and now he has been jailed for a total of six months.

Kenneth Donoghue, aged 37, of Cork Simon Community, was sentenced by Judge Mary Dorgan at Cork District Court.

He pleaded guilty to two thefts, one incident of being drunk and a danger and another count of failing to show up in court.

The 37-year-old stole a €30 box of Bulmer's cider cans from The Offie, Douglas St, Cork, on November 10, 2024, and returned to the same store and committed an identical offence on February 21 this year.

He failed to appear in Cork District Court for the case against him on May 22.

Most recently, he was arrested for being drunk and a danger to himself or others on August 20 at Bowling Green St, Cork.

Sergeant John Dineen said the accused had three previous theft convictions, two for public order offences, and numerous counts under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Frank Buttimer solicitor said the accused had been in custody for the past fortnight. He is from Portlaoise and living in Cork for the past 20 years where he has had difficulties with addiction and homelessness.
