Slash hooks used at violent break-in at Cork home

Slash hooks were used in a violent break-in at a home in Cork city early on Monday morning.
Three men, armed with 'implements', broke into a house in the Lagan Grove area of Mayfield at approximately 12.40am on Monday and confronted the occupants before fleeing, gardaí said.
The incident has been described as an aggravated burglary.
But the house may have been targeted specifically in a bid to intimidate residents, it is understood.
A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene. He has since been charged and will appear before Cork City District Court on Tuesday morning.
A man in the house, who is also in his 30s, was injured in the incident.
He was taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Although injured in the break-in, he was not stabbed or slashed with the knives, it is understood.
The men who allegedly broke into the house are not from Cork city, but came from within Cork county, it is understood.
A technical examination of the scene has taken place.
Investigating gardaí have issued an appeal for information on the burglary.
Any road users or pedestrians with camera footage who were in the Lagan Grove area of Mayfield between midnight on Sunday, August 10, and 1am on Monday, August 11 are asked to make this footage available.

A garda spokesperson told the that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
