Man who was drinking alcohol in Cork garda station car park given suspended sentence

The man pleaded guilty to obstructing a garda, damaging the Bridewell and being drunk and a danger, and engaging in threatening behaviour.

A 40-year-old man went drinking in the car park of Cork’s main garda station and followed this with a visit to the Bridewell where he caused damage to a window and threatened to kill a garda.

Judge Philip O’Leary said: “This is a serious matter”, but he imposed a total jail term of five months which he suspended in light of the changes in the defendant’s life since these events two years ago.
