Cork man accused of having cocaine in buttocks granted bail

Confiscated drug valued at almost €6,700

A 22-year-old man arrested on suspicion of having drugs allegedly produced a plastic wrap of cocaine worth over €6,000 from his buttocks and now the case has been adjourned until March 4.

Initially, there was an objection to bail because of breaches of curfew many times. However, Garda Dave O’Donoghue said the prosecution would agree to bail on strict conditions.

Judge Mary Dorgan granted bail on conditions that included signing daily at Gurranabraher garda station, provision of a phone number to gardaí at which he can be contacted, and abiding by a nightly curfew from 10pm until 7am.

Judge Dorgan adjourned the case until March 4. Defence solicitor Shane Collins-Daly told his client: “Gardaí are happy to give you one last chance.” 

Garda O’Donoghue said that on June 19, 2024, at Kilmore Rd the accused was seen in a Volkswagen Golf where he was the front seat passenger.

“When it stopped he was seen concealing items on his person. There was a small wrap of cocaine in his jacket pocket and €630 cash.

“Christian Morey was placed in the prisoner van on the way to Gurranabraher garda station. On arrival, he removed an item from his buttocks and attempted to discard it by ripping plastic wrapping and attempting to discard the powder.

“He also attempted to consume white powder in an attempt to destroy it.

“Powder was gathered from the cell of the prisoner van and the 86 grammes worth had a value of €6,680,” Garda O’Donoghue said.
