An argument over a heater being left on in a mobile home resulted in a verbal row between a young couple which culminated in the man attacking the 19-year-old woman — dragging her by the hair and tightly squeezing her windpipe.

21-year-old Craig Cooney of 66 Coolshannagh Walk, Monaghan town, Co Monaghan, pleaded guilty at Cork Circuit Criminal Court to charges including non-fatal strangulation of a young woman in Mitchelstown on December 9, 2023.
