A 74-year-old motorist who decided to make a U-turn when stuck in a traffic jam caused a collision with a BMW motorcycle resulting in serious injuries to the couple on the bike.

Judge Helen Boyle said at Cork Circuit Criminal Court that a U-turn was one of the most potentially dangerous manoeuvres that a motorist could make on the road and it required the most careful attention.
