Under-recording of prawn catch sees Cork fisherman fined €10,000

The amount of Nephrops (Dublin Bay prawn) on the vessel was just under six tonnes more that the amount entered into the fisherman's logbook.

The under-recording of a catch of Dublin Bay prawn by a Castletownbere fisherman resulted in a €10,000 fine and the mandatory confiscation of fish and gear totalling €38,000 at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

That was the penalty imposed by Judge Dermot Sheehan on David Minihane of Filane, Castletownbere, County Cork, master of the Blue Horizon trawler.
