Cork man pleads guilty to assault of prison officer and punching worker in petrol station

Court heard there was a disturbance in vulnerable unit of Cork Prison and when officers went into the cell, accused struck one of them in the face, causing minor head injuries

The vulnerable persons unit of Cork Prison was the location for an assault by a prisoner on a prison officer and now the young man has been sentenced to a two-year jail term for this assault and another committed against a shop assistant at a service station.

29-year-old James Spillane pleaded guilty to carrying out both assaults.
