A North Cork man who drove to Limerick for a €20,000 stash of cannabis and returned to Charleville by backroads in the hope of avoiding detection was caught by gardaí at a routine checkpoint after they detected the smell of cannabis.

Detective Garda Will Hosford gave evidence of the incident which dated back to May 2023. Now at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, Samuel Meade of Cregane, Lombardstown, County Cork, has been sentenced by Judge Dermot Sheehan to a three-year-suspended sentence.
