A judge has refused jurisdiction in the case of a man who allegedly went on what Killarney District Court heard was “a dedicated theft spree” in Cork and Kerry, stealing from vehicles parked in driveways of housing estates and removing amounts of cash, tools, a laptop, and other items.

After hearing the litany of charges, Judge David Waters described Stefan Scurtu as “a one-man theft machine”. The judge said the penalties available in the district court would not suffice. He refused jurisdiction.
