A man is due in court in Cork this morning over a number of linked incidents in Shanakiel at the end of August.

Shortly after 5.40pm on Friday, August 23, gardaí were informed of an incident of criminal damage at a property in the Shanakiel area of Cork.

About half an hour later, a motorcycle believed to be linked to the criminal damage incident struck a pedestrian on the Churchfield Road in the city.

The motorcyclist and pillion passenger failed to remain at the scene. The pedestrian, a man in his 60s, was later taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

That same evening, gardaí also seized a suspected firearm and arrested a man aged in his 20s. He was later released from custody.

On August 29, gardaí arrested and detained a man, also aged in his 20s, in connection with the incidents.

He was later charged and appeared before a sitting of Cork City District Court on Saturday, August 31.

This morning, October 15, gardaí confirmed they had arrested another man, also aged in his 20s, as part of their investigations into the incidents of August 23.

That man has since been charged and will appear before Cork District Court on Tuesday morning.
