The seizure of €2,800 worth of cocaine, customer tick lists, small zip-lock bags and a weighing scales at a property in Ballyvolane almost three years ago resulted in a young man confessing on Monday to the sale or supply of the drug.
24-year-old Jack Madden of Glenview Park, The Glen, Dillon’s Cross, Cork, was before Cork District Court where he pleaded guilty to drugs charges, the most serious of which was one of having cocaine for sale or supply to others.
Sergeant John Kelleher outlined the background to the case where a warrant was obtained to search a house at Pynes Valley, Ballyvolane, Cork, on November 26, 2021.
Gardaí carried out the search and found the drugs and paraphernalia as described.
Sgt Kelleher said there was a mobile home adjacent to the property and that the accused was residing there at the time.
Frank Buttimer, solicitor, stressed that the case dated back to 2021 and that the defendant had no previous convictions.
“The plea is significant. He was appointed with a probation officer previously and he did well with probation. I would say a pre-sentencing report would be of considerable benefit. He has no ongoing issues with drugs,” Mr Buttimer said.
Judge Philip O’Leary agreed and put sentencing back until December 9 for a probation report.
