Cork man caught dealing cocaine welcomes jail sentence to help rehabilitation

Sergeant Gearóid Davis said gardaí went to the 26-year-old man’s home with a search warrant. Weighing scales, baggies, and cocaine with a street value of €280 were seized during the search.
A man caught dealing cocaine welcomed the prospect of jail so that he could get completely clear of drugs and advance his rehabilitation while in custody.
David Griffin pleaded guilty to having cocaine for sale or supply at his home at Churchfield Avenue, Cork, on October 4, 2022.
Sergeant Gearóid Davis said that on this date, gardaí went to the 26-year-old man’s home with a search warrant. Weighing scales, baggies, and cocaine with a street value of €280 were seized during the search. He also had a small amount of Diamorphine (heroin) for his own use on the occasion.
On October 1, 2022, he was stopped for a search at Commons Road in Cork and had cannabis for his own use.
More recently, on July 27 he was caught shoplifting at Penney’s on St Patrick’s St.
Frank Buttimer solicitor said the 26-year-old was pleaded guilty to all charges: “He is looking to clear the decks. He has successfully dealt with drug addiction. He remains on methadone. He is working and supportive to his children.
“He would accept a prison sentence. It would help him with his ongoing methadone treatment. What he intends to do is clean himself up in there and come out clean.”
Judge Philip O’Leary said: “It warrants a prison sentence in the circumstances.”
The judge imposed a total sentence of five months on the accused.
