Gardaí objected to bail being granted to a man accused of raping a young woman in Cork more than two years ago — the objections based on concerns for the safety of the community and for the complainant.

Detective Garda Richard O’Donnell arrested and charged the 31-year-old man with carrying out the rape of the woman on March 5, 2022.
