A Cork woman with 173 convictions for theft got a six-month jail term for several counts of shoplifting on May 29, but 10 days later she turned up at a city centre pharmacy to steal €288 worth of cosmetics.

Judge Mary Dorgan wondered how a woman she jailed so recently could be out committing another theft within days, particularly where she was not appealing her prison sentence.
