Two men remained in Garda custody on Tuesday morning in connection with the death of Kerry dad Gerard Kennelly.

Mr Kennelly, 44, died after being stabbed in an incident in the North Kerry village of Knockanure in the early hours of Monday morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to University Hospital Kerry for an autopsy.

GardaĂ­ are continuing their inquiries into the incident this morning as two men are being questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. One man, who is in his 30s, was arrested early on Monday morning while the second man, aged in his 20s, was arrested on Monday afternoon.

GardaĂ­ have appealed to the public for information in relation to the incident.

"Any road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Knockanure village between 12am and 1am and may have camera footage (including dash cam) are asked to make this available," a garda spokesperson said.

"Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Listowel Garda Station on 068 50820, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800, 666 111 or any Garda station.
