The DPP has indicated that a new charge is to be brought against a 63-year-old Cork man charged with two assault charges arising out of an alleged attack on his sleeping wife with boiling water and a claw hammer.

Judge Mary Dorgan explained to Noel Twomey of 18 Carbery Grove, Knocknaheeny, Cork, that the Director of Public Prosecutions had progressed the case to the point that a new charge is now going to be brought against the accused.
