Accused came away empty handed from car rental office and then broke into shop where he was caught filling a plastic bag with cigarettes, court heard

Accused has has been jailed for a total of seven months for the two crimes.

A 43-year-old man smashed his way into a car rental office in the early hours of the morning but when he got nothing he forced up the roller shutter on a nearby shop and began to fill a plastic bag with cigarettes from behind the counter.

However, Derek Lynch of 5 Cois Abhainn, Lower Glanmire Road, Cork, was caught in the act of that particular burglary as gardaí arrived on the scene before he could leave.
