Gardaí objected to bail being granted to a 27-year-old man accused of several shoplifting offences, including one last week where it was alleged that he stole four legs of lamb and nine bottles of vodka.

Gavin Reidy of Cedar Grove, Mallow, County Cork, appeared before Cork District Court where there was the objection to bail.

However, Judge Mary Dorgan granted the man bail on strict conditions.

He is to reside with his mother at the Mallow address, stay out of Cork City except for pre-arranged legal and medical appointments, sign on daily at Mallow garda station and to provide a number to gardaí at which he will be contactable at all times.

He was remanded on these bail conditions until May 7.

The defendant is accused of stealing €260 worth of cosmetic products from Boots pharmacy on Half Moon Street on October 24, 2023. Mr Reidy is also accused of stealing €33 worth of alcohol and food items on November 1, 2023, at Centra on Shandon Street.

He is charged with stealing alcohol worth €313 on February 15 at Tesco on Paul Street and with stealing various grocery items valued €157 at Lidl on Cornmarket Street.

Finally, Gavin Reidy is accused of stealing four legs of lamb and nine bottles of vodka, at a total price of €435, on March 15 at Marks and Spencer.
