'I wanted to clear my head', man accused of striking sleeping mother with saucepan told gardaí

Incident at the centre of the case occurred on Saturday night, March 9, when it is alleged the accused walked into his mother’s bedroom and struck her in the face as she slept, causing her nose to bleed heavily and leaving her with a swollen eye, court heard.

A sleeping woman was attacked by her own son who struck her violently across the face with a saucepan — later telling gardaí: “I wanted to clear my head”.

Garda Simone Gilman-Burke objected to bail being granted to the accused and outlined these allegations at an in-camera hearing of Cork District Court.
