“What’s the delay, what’s going on?” That was the question from a 63-year-old Cork man accused of attacking his sleeping wife with boiling water and a claw-hammer.

Defence solicitor Shane Collins-Daly had already said on behalf of Noel Twomey at Cork District Court: “He has been refused bail in this court and refused bail the High Court. He is very anxious. He has no experience of the criminal law. I have explained to him that this is the system.”
