Three men due in court in connection with weapons and ammunition seizure in Kildare

A garda investigation into the matter is ongoing

Three young men are due in court this morning following a guns and ammunition seizure over the weekend.

On Saturday, as part of an intelligence-led operation, gardaí stopped and searched a vehicle in Co Kildare at around 10am. Inside, they found a military assault rifle, a semi-automatic handgun, and 40 rounds of ammunition.

The search was backed up by armed officers from the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and detectives from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.

Three young men - aged 19, 20 and 21 - were arrested and questioned by gardaí.

They have since been charged. All three will appear before Naas District Court at 10.30am this morning.
