One of the most tragic episodes ever experienced in Ballingeary ended with the jailing of a local man for 18 months on Wednesday, but memories prevail of a beloved daughter of the Gaeltacht.

42-year-old Michael Lucey of Derryvaleen, Ballingeary, County Cork, was sentenced to a total of three years with half of this suspended for dangerous driving causing the death of 51-year-old Gobnait Twomey, drink driving and a separate charge of dangerous driving. He was disqualified from driving for five years.
