On Tuesday, officers at Shannon Airport discovered drugs worth an estimated €20,000 as a result of risk profiling.

Around 1kg of herbal cannabis was found in parcels that originated in the US and were destined for an address in Cork.

Last Sunday, Revenue officers seized 26,000 cigarettes during the search of a ship at Foynes Port in Limerick.

The cigarettes, which were branded L&M have an estimated retail value of €20,000 and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €16,000.

On Thursday, January 18, officers seized both cigarettes and tobacco at Cork Airport.

The 23,400 cigarettes and 6kgs of tobacco were branded John Player Blue and Amber Leaf.

They have a combined estimated retail value of over €24,500 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €19,000.

The discovery was made during a search of passengers bags who had arrived on a flight from the Canary Islands.
