A book of evidence was served on Monday on a 20-year-old motorist accused of dangerous driving causing serious harm to another man in Crosshaven in Christmas week 2022.

Sergeant Pat Lyons confirmed at Cork District Court the book of evidence had been served in respect of three charges in the case against Kyle Edwards, of The Pines, Bridgemount, Carrigaline, Co Cork.

On the application of Sgt Lyons, Judge Mary Dorgan sent the case forward to the next sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court commencing on January 29.

The first charge against the accused state that on December 18, 2022, at The Square, Crosshaven, Co Cork, he drove in a manner that was dangerous to the public, causing serious bodily harm to Patrick Crowley.

The second count alleges that where he was involved in the occurrence of injury to Patrick Crowley who appeared to require assistance, he did fail to offer assistance and did so with intent to escape civil or criminal liability, and knowing that injury had been caused to a person of such nature as to require medical assistance for that person at that place or that the person be brought to a hospital for medical assistance.

On the same date at Lower Road, Crosshaven, it is alleged Kyle Edwards had cannabis in his possession for his own use.

On the application of solicitor William Hanly, Judge Mary Dorgan extended free legal aid for a barrister to represent the accused at the circuit court.
