Cork motorist accused of injuring man facing new charges 

Sergeant John Kelleher said the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed trial by indictment at Cork Circuit Criminal Court because of the seriousness of the allegations.

A 20-year-old motorist accused of dangerous driving causing serious harm to another man in Crosshaven on Christmas week last year was before Cork District Court on new charges.

Three new charges were brought against Kyle Edwards, of The Pines, Bridgemount, Carrigaline, Cork.

Sergeant John Kelleher said the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed trial by indictment at Cork Circuit Criminal Court because of the seriousness of the allegations.

On Sgt Kelleher’s application, Judge Mary Dorgan remanded Mr Edwards on bail until January 22, 2024, to allow time for preparation and service of a book of evidence. Defence solicitor Pat Mullins did not object to that application.

Charges against the accused state that on December 18, 2022, at The Square, Crosshaven, County Cork, he drove in a manner that was dangerous to the public causing serious bodily harm to Patrick Crowley.

The second count alleges that where he was allegedly involved in the occurrence of injury to Patrick Crowley who appeared to require assistance he did fail to offer assistance and did so with intent to escape civil or criminal liability, and knowing that injury had been caused to a person of such nature as to require medical assistance for that person at that place or that the person be brought to a hospital for medical assistance.

On the same date at Lower Road, Crosshaven, it is alleged that Kyle Edwards had cannabis in his possession for his own use.
