Limerick mother gets five years for severing Garda’s foot in near fatal hit-and-run

A mother-of-two who mowed down a garda, severing his foot and leaving him for dead in a ditch, was jailed for seven years with the final two suspended on Friday.
Niamh McDonnell, (30), Gortskagh, Castlemahon, Co Limerick, wept as judge Tom O’Donnell also imposed a 10-year road ban at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court.
