Man arrested in connection with conning 15 victims out of €275k in romance frauds

A man has been arrested in connection with defrauding 15 victims out of more than €275,000 collectively, in a case of romance fraud.

The man, aged in his 40s, was arrested yesterday in the west Dublin area as part of an ongoing Garda investigation into the laundering of the proceeds of romance fraud.

The money is understood to have come from schemes operating in numerous countries worldwide from November 2017 until now.

The man is currently being detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 at a Garda station in Dublin.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
