The Irish Examiner has received five nominations across multiple categories ahead of next month’s Irish Journalism Awards.

Special correspondent Mick Clifford has been nominated for broadsheet columnist of the year for an October 2025 piece titled ‘Let’s Talk About Immigration — Using Actual Facts’.

He discusses the fallout from an alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old child at an international protection centre in west Dublin.

Sean Murray has been nominated in the best foreign coverage category for a series of searing reports from the streets of Minneapolis, Minnesota, on the back of the Trump administration’s Operation Metro Surge.

Reporting from the frontlines in the besieged city, Murray wrote of the “brazen falsehoods” being peddled following the shooting of protester Alex Pretti.

Mr Pretti was killed in cold blood by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Furious protests in the aftermath saw tens of thousands take to the streets in defiance of Trump’s immigration crackdown.

The Irish Examiner has also been nominated for front page of the year for its April 2026 ‘Stolen Innocence’ edition, featuring Colin Sheridan’s report on the suffering caused by global conflict, with a series of harrowing images.

Cathal Dennehy has been nominated in the best broadsheet sports writer category for a feature on Ger Copeland, the Irish runner who survived three brain haemorrhages in 2024 after completing more than 300 marathons.

Political reporter Tadgh McNally has also been nominated for young journalist of the year.
