Two teenagers arrested after stolen car driven wrong way on M50 and rams garda car

Two teenage boys have been arrested after a stolen car was driven against the flow of traffic on the M50 before ramming an official garda vehicle in Dublin.

Gardaí from Mountjoy and Blanchardstown Traffic Unit were involved in a managed containment operation shortly before 8pm on Thursday following a number of dangerous driving incidents involving the car.

The vehicle had been reported stolen in the Coolock area of Dublin 17 during the early hours of Wednesday.

During the operation, the car was observed being driven against traffic on the M50, as well as in Whitehall, Finglas and Ballymun.

At the junction of the M1 and R132, the stolen vehicle rammed an official garda car before it was brought to a controlled stop. No injuries were reported.

Two male juveniles, both in their late teens, were arrested at the scene. They were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the DMR North area.

One of the teenagers has since been charged and was due to appear before Dublin Children’s Court on Friday morning.

The second teenager was released pending the preparation of a file for the Youth Diversion Programme.

Gardaí said investigations remain ongoing.
