Two arrested near border after gardaí intercept ‘highly sophisticated’ car bomb

An "extremely significant" explosive device concealed in a vehicle was intercepted near the border during an operation targeting dissident republicans, gardaí have said.

Members of the Garda Special Detective Unit stopped the vehicle on the N2, south of Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, on Wednesday afternoon.
