Investigation launched as man, 21, dies following assault in Dublin

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to support the family of the deceased.

A 21-year-old man has died following an assault in Dublin in the early hours of Monday.  

The assault occurred on Clarendon Street at approximately 3am.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the scene where a man was found in a serious condition. He was removed from the scene and taken to St. James's Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A Garda spokesperson said: "The State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

"The scene is currently preserved for technical examination."

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation. An incident room has been established at Pearse Street Garda Station. A Family Liaison Officer has also been assigned to support the family of the deceased.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to theincident to come forward.

Anyone who was in the Grafton Street or Clarendon Street area in the early hours of Monday morning between 2am and 3.30am and who may have camera footage, including CCTV or dashcam, is asked to provide this footage to investigating gardaí.

Investigations are ongoing.
