Two further men are due to appear in court this morning in relation to an alleged extreme-right terror plot to bomb a mosque in Galway.
They were arrested this morning in Limerick and Laois by detectives from the Special Detective Unit, the Garda’s anti-terrorism section.
It brings to four the number of people charged in Ireland in connection with the cross-border case, which involved the Police Federation of Northern Ireland.
Two men, one from the North and the other from the South, have already appeared before the courts in Ireland and charged.
Those charged stemmed from the discover of explosives by the PSNI in Co Down and gardaí in Co Laois last November.
Gardaí and the PSNI made the discoveries as part of a cross-border counter-terror operation.
A statement issued by Garda HQ this morning said: “Gardaí have made further arrests as part of this cross-border terrorism-related investigation.
“Two men, both in aged in their 30s, who were arrested in Limerick and Portlaoise, Co. Laois, this morning have been charged.” It said they are due to appear before Portlaoise District Court this morning.
The statement said: “Two other males currently before the courts, will be further charged in connection with this investigation, also before Portlaoise District Court this morning.
“The investigation continues to be led by An Garda Síochána Special Detective Unit.”
