Thunderstorm warning issued for four counties as heavy showers forecast

According to the forecaster, thundery downpours, spot flooding, lightning damage as well as difficult travelling conditions can be expected.

Met Éireann has issued a thunderstorm warning for four counties, with the forecaster saying heavy showers will lead to difficult conditions for motorists.

A status yellow thunderstorm warning is in place for Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Galway until 11am on Friday.

According to the forecaster, thundery downpours, spot flooding, lightning damage, and difficult travelling conditions are expected.

However, temperatures will remain mild and warmer than average.

Rain will clear eastwards early this morning, with sunny spells and scattered showers following.

Showers will be heavy and blustery, with isolated thunderstorms possible, turning more persistent for a time in the late morning and early afternoon.

Cloud will thicken from the southwest through the afternoon, bringing outbreaks of rain and drizzle to Munster and Connacht later. 

Highest temperatures will range from 9C to 12C in moderate to fresh, occasionally strong, west to southwest winds.

Saturday will be mild, breezy and rather wet, with further outbreaks of rain moving northeastwards across the country and turning heavy at times, particularly in the west and north.

Highest temperatures will range from 10C to 13C with moderate to fresh southwest winds.
