A man in his 60s has died following a single-vehicle crash in Wexford.
The incident happened on the L4007 at Maudlin’s Cross, near New Ross, just after 1pm.
The male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, and his body was later removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.
His death brings the number of people killed on the roads this year so far to five.
A teenage male passenger died when the car he was in was involved in a single vehicle collision on the N65 at Loughrea, Co Galway, on January 18, at about 2.20am.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the driver and two other passengers were brought by ambulance to University Hospital Galway with non-life-threatening injuries.
On January 10, at about 6.40pm, a male driver in his 40s died in a two-car collision on the N22 near Dromadeesirt, Co. Kerry. The other driver, a male in his 30s, was taken to University Hospital Kerry with non-life-threatening injuries.
The second road traffic fatality of the year was after a car crashed into a tree at Knockdooragh, Headford, Co Kerry, on January 3.
The driver of the car, a man aged in his 30s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The first fatality of the year was on the N4, Edgeworthstown in Co. Longford, on January 3, after a collision between two cars and a van.
The driver of one of the cars, a man in his 30s, was pronounced deceased.
The number of road traffic fatalities is four down on this time last year, when there were nine dead.
