Man, 20s, arrested on suspicion of murder over Edenderry fire

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal house fire in Co Offaly in which a woman and child died in December.

Four-year-old Tadhg Farrell and his great-aunt Mary Holt died in a house fire in Castleview Park, Edenderry, on December 6.

They were both discovered dead in the front room of the house after the fire. Tadgh was on a sleepover at the house when the incident happened.

In an update on Wednesday morning, gardaí said they arrested a man in his late 20s. 

He is currently being detained on suspicion of murder under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the Midlands. 

"Investigations are ongoing," a garda spokesperson said.
